This announcement is being sent to Wildland Volunteers wanting
notification:

Austin Water Utility's Wildland Conservation Division has a few events
scheduled on the City's wildlands in June despite the heat. There is
still a lot to see and learn about as the seasonal changes of summer set
in.

You can choose to join the Breeding Bird Survey on June 21st or bring
your kids out to learn about Birds, Butterflies and Fossils, a wildland
experience designed just for them on June 28th. We also need volunteers
to help with some Greenhouse Maintenance and Seedling Transplanting on
June 5th.

The City's Balcones Canyonlands Preserve program is also pleased to host
a free lecture on Oak Wilt on June 21st as part of the 2008 Hike &
Lecture Series. No pre-registration needed, just come on out on the
21st. The lecture will be given by Eric Beckers of the Texas Forest
Service. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the disease
and hear about its current status and treatment from one of our State's
experts on the topic. Following the lecture will be an optional walk
around the building complex to see an oak wilt center that City staff
have been managing and monitoring for several years.

You can find out more about all of these opportunities on the Wildland
Conservation Division's calendar of events at
http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/water/wildland/onlineregistration/ecowebevent
s.cfm. The guided hikes have limited space and require pre-registration
that can be accomplished by clicking the blue button at the above link.

Note that we also host registration for the Hike & Lecture Series hike
events. The next event is an Introduction to the Barton Creek Habitat
Preserve hosted by the Nature Conservancy on June 14th.

Enjoy your summer!

Gail
