We have worked together to Stop the Coal Rush in the past couple of years
and the campaign is moving forward.

Next Wednesday, May 7, at 11:00 AM, Sierra Club will announce legal action
concerning Maximum Available Control Technology for Hazardous Pollutants and
we will conduct hair testing for mercury. The legal action could impact
three Texas coal plants.

We hope you can come to have your hair tested. A small sample of your hair
will be sent to the lab for analysis and results mailed to you. You can
attend without having your hair tested, too.

national legal action concerning mercury from coal-fired power plants.

Hair tests will be sent to a lab for analysis. Results and information will

Mercury, a potent neurotoxin, falls in our lakes and rivers making some fish
unsafe to eat. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned pregnant
women and any woman who might want to become pregnant to avoid or limit fish
consumption. In-utero exposure to mercury can cause severe mental
retardation, cerebral palsy, deafness, blindness, and seizures. A University
of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio study released April 30th
found that autism increased by 17% for every 1,000 pounds of mercury that is
emitted locally in Texas. Every year from 2000-2006, Texas has ranked #1 in
the nation for mercury emissions and seventeen bodies of water in our State
are currently under Fish Consumption Advisory from the Texas Department of
State Health Services due to mercury contamination.

At the Wet Salon hair testing event on Wednesday, May 7 at 11:00 AM, the
Sierra Club will announce a legal action concerning mercury from coal plants
nationwide. The Sierra Club legal action will impact 3 coal plants in
Texas. For more information see -- http://www.sierraclub.org/mercury/
Thank you, Wet Salon.
