Every eleven and one-half days, the explosive equivalent of the Hiroshima atomic bomb is unleashed upon the mountains of southern West Virginia and eastern Kentucky - for coal.

The Third Thursday Environmental Film Series at Ruta Maya Coffee House continues 6-9 pm, Thursday, June 19, with Burning the Future: Coal in America, a powerful, stirring account of how people living in West Virginia faced with toxic ground water and the obliteration of 1.4 million acres of mount

ains courageously take a stand to save their beloved mountains, their homes, their health and their communities. This film by writer/director David Novack, is one of the best environmental documentaries I have seen.

The evening begins with music at 6 pm, film at 7 pm and panel discussion at 8 pm.

The Environmental Film Series is hosted by Clean Water Fund as a fundraiser for the organization's environmental research and education programs. The event is free -- donations of $5 and more are gratefully accepted. For information about sponsoring the film series, contact Vicki Wolf or David Foster at 512-474-0605. Thank you to Barr Mansion, our Platinum Reel Sponsor, and our other sponsors for making this film series possible.

Ruta Maya Coffee House is located at 3601 South Congress Ave., Austin, Texas
