children.  We are seeking new families who share our vision.  Even if

AUSTIN
ECOSCHOOLis a microcosm of a world where
people live in freedom, harmony, safety, and health as they pursue knowledge
and self awareness.   Children and community members are empowered to
discover and live by their own highest ideals and to grow in joy.   Our school operates 3-4 days a week and
serves children Kinder – 5th Grade.
 
HOMEThe
“Eco” in EcoSchool has its origin in the Greek word for home.
Combining the
best of homeschooling and teacher led instruction, Austin EcoSchool serves as
an extension of the loving home environment and offers children a gentle step
into their expanding worlds.  Small groups of mixed age children work
together to reach academic goals, care for the school and grounds, participate
in events, and contribute to the greater community.
 
POTENTIALStudents discover their important roles in the “web of
life”.
Using the simple
principles of shared responsibility, low impact living and creative problem
solving, the students explore their potential and learn their important roles
in our school community, the global community, and the future.  Service
projects, gardening, recycled and reused materials, and ecological studies are
examples of this ambition.
 
ENVIRONMENTNon-toxic
physical and emotional environment.
From eco-friendly
cleaning products to light bulbs Austin EcoSchool takes great care in providing
the safest possible physical environment for young minds and bodies.  By
honoring individualism, encouraging respectful communication and using peaceful
conflict resolution we extend the idea of non-toxicity to the social
environment. 
   
KNOWLEDGE Adaptive,
interwoven curriculum emphasizes academic skills.
Families partner
with the teaching team to determine the best goals and methods to insure each
child’s academic success.  School-wide historic, scientific, and
ecological themes permeate the core classes of Mathematics and Language Arts as
well as Social Studies, Drama, Science, Role-Playing, Music, Visual Art, and
The Game of Village.
 
CREATIVITYSynthesis of knowledge, artistry, imagination, &
hands-on learning.  The Game
of Village, in which children learn about the world at large by developing a
harmonious and productive community in miniature, plays an important role in
synthesizing the EcoSchool learning experience.  In the game, each child
creates a small person, designs and builds its home, and plays its role in the
new village.
 
Austin EcoSchool is a private school established as a Texas non-profit
corporation and currently pursuing tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3)
organization and is funded solely from tuition, donations and fund raising
