Howdy folks. Thanks to Chris, Randy, Brandi, and the Downtown Farmers Market
for a great day yesterday celebrating food and "Local Interdependence" Days.
You should a' been there, and many of you were. To be sure the [b]eat goes
on:

-Local Food, Local Gardeners, *Getting Ready for Fall Gardens - R'Rock
Gardening Club* at the Baca Rec./Sr. Center - 9:30 AM tomorrow, July 7th -
for about an hour - Dick Pierce on Permaculture, simple, small,
intensive gardens. All are welcome Baca Ctr is at 801 W. Bagdad Ave - go
East off I-35 at 620 exit, rights on N. Brown and Bagdad.

-Tues. night - *Brandi's "Pachamama*" Food, Spirit, Living, Caring group
meets for "low on the food chain" dinner and discussion at Casa de Luz. See
AEN for info.

-Wed. night - buy produce and dinner at the Tri-Angle Farmers Market (45 &
Lamar/Guadalupe) at 6:00 ish - then at 7:00 on to *Crude Awakening - Peak
Oil Meet-Up* Group Meeting. Yep, you guessed it.........Dick Pierce on
Permaculture and LOCAL food, jobs, produce/products, businesses, transport,
community - who needs oil, except to sautee veggies! All are welcome - Hyde
Park Presbyterian Church at 40th and Ave. B.- just 5 blocks South on
Guadalupe and 2 blocks East on 40th.

-Great News for Permies/Gardeners/Mulchers (no, not car insurance!) -
Callahan's General Store has baled WHEAT STRAW! They had about 80 bales left
when I bought my 3 bales on Thursday. About $6-7 a bale - great mulch and
hard to find in Austin.

-Stay tuned or drop me an Email - planning a *Hands-on Gardening Class* -
for new gardeners, new to Austin folks, all those who think its hard,
expensive, time-consuming, and not productive - and for all the new Austin
Foodies that Brandi is creating/converting. It will be 2 Sat. AM's from
9-12:00 outdoors and hands-on. Several Austin locations under review. It
will be free if you pledge 10 hours of gardening volunteer time to local
groups (being determined now). This may morph into something larger, may not
- for me the dates are fixed (my schedule and Mother Nature's fall
garden planting schedule in Travis Cty.).

-On Labor Day Saturday night, August 30 - mark your calendar for a *Prohibition
Potluck Party at the Pierce's* (Red River & 32nd St. You will be encouraged
to bring friends, family, local food, wine, beer, singing voices, carnival
acts (fire dancers last time), music, instruments.....*So what's the
Prohibition?* You are prohibited from arriving in a
*gas-powered*vehicle. Walk, ride bike, ride bus, horse & carriage,
electric
vehicles(recharge available), hybrids for 2008 only, etc. A uniformed person
and an on-site wrecker will be present to enforce this invite. For those who
must drive in, a free parking area and hybrid/electric shuttle will be
provided. People can act, dress, perform for the occasion - gas-free,
local/natural food, Prohibition era, or for swimming in the pool.

So that will get us past the 4th of July, through the Summer, on to Labor
Day and September. What then! Please remember and remind your friends,
associates, and groups you belong to that Sat/Sun., Sept. 27/28 is the
Permaculture Basics Weekend and the start of the 10-day, 8-weekend Design
Course. Please see www.permie.us for details and then talk to Jenny about
enrollment and questions. The Green Scene, Austin Foodie, Crude
Awakening/Soft Landing, Climate Change for the Better..........Permaculture
is about and allows you to make some sense of all of them.

See ya' soon, HAGS (have a great summer)
