Reusable <http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/reusable_bag_day>  Bag Day

Keep Austin Beautiful, the City of Austin, and local retailers declared June
18th "Reusable Bag Day" to raise awareness about reusable bags as an easy
and affordable choice for reducing waste and pollution. 

We asked Austinites to choose a reusable bag instead of disposable paper or
plastic when shopping on Wednesday, June 18th. 

Parents and kids participated in the KAB Design-a-Bag activity. Free canvas
bags and art supplies were provided at six stores around Austin so kids
could create a one-of-a-kind bag that will continue to raise awareness every
time they use it.

Forget getting to know your neighbors by knocking on the door to ask for a
cup of sugar. Ask KAB for $500-$2,500 and get to know your neighbors during
a volunteer workday where you plant native trees, restore a creek, install a
rainwater collection system in your community garden, build benches out of
recycled material, and if you really want to you can take some cookies along
too. 

Don't be intimidated by the term "grant writing". We just want to hear your
ideas, so download the application and send us two pages explaining your
vision as well as supplemental materials to bring the project to life for
our panel of reviewers.

Volunteers <http://www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/ParksCleanup>  brave heat to
make Lake Travis Parks Cleaner than ever

On Saturday, June 28th, more than 325 volunteers braved the heat to round up
over 2,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from nine Lake Travis Parks as
part of the 23rd Annual Lake Travis Parks Cleanup! 

It was HOT, but volunteers managed to scour the parks and shoreline for
every tiny bit of trash and left each park CLEANER than ever! After the
cleanup volunteers enjoyed free lunch, event t-shirts and a chance to win
some great door prizes. 

KAB's Green Teen summer interns were on hand to lead activities on pollution
and runoff and helped raise awareness about the importance of protecting
Lake Travis and all of our local waterways. 

KAB would like to thank the many volunteers, our sponsors Viatran and Eagle
Construction & Environmental Services, L.P., and our partners Travis County
and LCRA.

7th 

Dust off your dive gear and get ready to be part of the BIGGEST underwater
and shoreline cleanup in Texas! Join us on Sunday, September 7th for the
14th Annual Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup. 

We need divers AND shoreline volunteers to help keep Lake Travis clean and
beautiful. And don't forget about the volunteer party at Carlos' N Charlie's
after the cleanup!
