The Great Park Comes to Austin
How did the City of Irvine, California receive a donation of 1,300 acres,
$400 million and taxing authority to develop the largest urban park (2.5
times the size of Central Park) in the United States?
On Monday April 21 at 6:30 p.m. Larry Agran Mayor Pro Tem of Irvine and
Chair of the Orange County Great Park Corporation will share the story of
how a small coalition of dedicated citizens initiated this amazing and still
unfolding achievement. Come listen to his story and learn what it might
mean for Central Texans looking to protect the natural beauty of our region.
This presentation is sponsored by the Department of Social and Behavioral
Sciences at Huston-Tillotson University, Pi Gamma Mu, Environment Texas,
Save Our Springs Alliance, the Sierra Club, Keep Austin Beautiful, and
Habitat Suites. The talk will take place on the Huston-Tillotson University
campus in the AL Auditorium. For further information contact Dr. Michael
Hirsch at 512.505.3125 or mlhirsch at htu.edu.
This presentation is free and open to the public.
